Success despite obstacles – scholarship opportunities in Poland

The war in Ukraine has led fundamentally to a severe breakdown in academic and cultural cooperation since Russia’s 2022 aggression. As a result, countless scholars have seen their research projects come to a standstill. Recognizing the gravity of this situation, the Mieroszewski Centre has launched a crucial programme to sustain these researchers and ensure their vital contributions continue despite the conflict. Learn about scholarship opportunities in Poland.

Research in Poland

A “Research in Poland” is a unique opportunity for international researchers offered by Mieroszewski Centre in Warsaw. The initiative research in poland aims to fund non-Polish researchers delving into the historical, political, cultural, and societal legacies of Central and Eastern European populations.

This financial aid is open to international individuals who collaborate with academic institutions, think tanks, or research organizations, and who can demonstrate established scholarly contributions and propose research to be conducted within Poland. Pre-doctoral candidates enrolled in relevant doctoral programs, but not yet holding a doctorate, are also eligible.

Successful applicants will receive support for a duration ranging from three to nine months. The scholarship provides a monthly amount of 6500 PLN. All applications in English or Polish language must be created and submitted through the designated online portal, accessed at stypendium.mieroszewski.pl.

A Month in Poland

This initiative provides a dedicated financial grant to researchers from Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Russia. The programme facilitates in-depth study of the region’s multifaceted past, intricate political dynamics, lively cultural expressions, and varied historical legacy.

The program is designed for international researchers who are actively engaged with academic, expert, or analytical institutions, and who can provide a track record of scholarly work. Those pursuing doctoral studies, yet to attain their doctorate, are also considered, provided they have produced demonstrable research. The initiative supports a range of research approaches, encompassing interviews, surveys, and research utilizing archival or library resources. Those selected for the program will receive a monthly sum of 6500 PLN for their one-month stay.

Research in Ukraine

To strengthen academic ties, especially between Poland and Ukraine, this program supports Ukrainian researchers working within their war-torn country. It targets those in history, culture, social sciences, and humanities. Each year, the program “Research in Ukraine” addresses relevant research challenges. Selected scholars receive a monthly sum of 6500 PLN for three months.
